I'm unsure if Adobe Reader's update failure is due to 's lack of an update for Mac OS Intel 10.8.5. On Adobe's website I noticed that my exact operating system 10.8.5 is not included in the drop down menu, so I chose Mac OS Intel 10.8. They either print out with blocks of text instead of the letters and with the 'Use local fonts' option deselected it prints out no text, just the formatting. If you're running Mac OS X 10.9 or later, install the latest version of Reader. First you download the installation package, and then you install Adobe Reader from that package file.
